Sunnyside Park is Lochs fabulous community park and playground, found at the Eastern entrance to Loch Village. Developed by the Loch Community Development Association(LCDA) is was over 10 years in the making! (The original site that the LCDA had earmarked for a park ended up with the Highway Bypass going straight through the middle of it!) Consequently it was back to the drawing board with new plans. New land also had to be acquired & funding sought.
The result however was well worth the wait...
Sunnyside Park is a perfect place to relax for locals and visitors alike!
Four legged friends are also welcome and doggy doo disposal bags are provided.
Sunnyside Park has a large picnic shelter with tables, free electric BBQ's, playground equipment to suit all ages, a sandpit, drinking fountain, heritage lamp posts, landscaping and shared pathways.
Also in the park is the old Loch police Lock up, currently being restored by the Loch & District Historic group.
Sunnyside Park was so named because before Loch was established, the district was known as 'Sunnyside'.
Funding for Sunnyside Park came from a State Government fund, the Small Towns Development Program with assistance from South Gippsland Shire Council, The Loch Community Development Association, Strzelecki Lions Club and the Loch-Nyora Landcare group. Many local individuals also put in countless hours to help develop Sunnyside Park.
Sunnyside Park & the Lock Up project were winners of the Communty Pride Award for the State of Victoria, in the 2006 Keep Australia Beautiful Tidy Towns Awards.
A Skate Park is planned for land ajoining Sunnyside Park as are public toilets.
Toilets can be found however, up in the main street of Loch Village, at Centennial Park (opposite the CFA).
Other Loch attractions that can be found close by to Sunnyside Park are the Giant Gippsland Earthworm Exhibit in the pedestrian underpass, the Loch Railway Station (on the South Gippsland Tourist Rail line) and the Loch Memorial Reserve and Suspension bridge.
